Prakasam Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a farm science center of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, managed by an N.G.O., Grama Nava Nirman Samithi established in 1992 with Head quarters at Jammikunta of Karimnagar district, serving the farming community in the fields of Agriculture and allied activities.

Jammikunta is situated on the main Railway line, 40 km. Away from warangal towards Delhi. The district Head quarters Karimnagar is 52 km. from Jammikunta.

Keeping in view of geographical situations, cropping pattern, problems and needs of the farming community, KVK is working on following objectives:
1 ) To improve productivity in Agriculture and Allied enterprises.
2) To generate employment for Rural Youth in Agro, Agro based and Non-farm sector.
3) To improve the socio-economic condition of Rural community.

Mandates of the KVK
1 ) Conduct of On Farm Testings for location specific problems and technology refinements in Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Home Science.
2) Conduct of Training programmes to practicing farmer, Rural youth and Extension functionaries.
3) Conduct of Front line demonstrations on major crops of the district to show the performance of new varieties and latest technologies in Agriculture and Allied activities.
4) Conduct of Agricultural Exhibitions, Rythu Sadassu, Kisan melas, Field days, Ex training meetings and farmer scientist interaction programmes to propagate the new technologies and to solve the need based problems.

KVK has six major disciplines viz., Crop Production, Plant Protection, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Home Science.

Instructional Farm
About 8 ha. area is under instructional farm. Cultivation of different varieties with different technologies on Paddy, Cotton, Pulses and Oilseeds. Developed Horticulture block with Banana, Mango and Teak Plantation with Drip irrigation.

Other Activities
Production  and  supply  of  quality seeds, planting material, Fish fingerlings, Vermiculture & compost and Live stock to the farmers.
Conduct  of  Vocational  training programmes to Rural Youth (Men & Women)

Thrust Areas
Thrust areas identified through PRA, Bench mark surveys, Group discussions and observations :

a) Agro climatic conditions suitable for seed production of various crops like Paddy, Maize,
    Chilli, Turmeric, Jowar, Tomato etc.

b) Rabi season is highly suitable for higher yields in pulses , maize, paddy and ground nut.

c) In black soils during Kharif Soybean can be grown under rain fed conditions.

d) Summer season suitable for raising sesamum.

e) Introduction of new crops like sweet sorghum can be taken up to improve economy in rain fed areas.

f) Promotion of IPM & INM in various crops.

g) Nursery management in respect of horticulture crops should be promoted to create self
    employment   among rural youth.

h) Banana can be taken up in black soils in place of Cotton under irrigated conditions,

i) Agro climatic conditions suitable to grow different winter vegetables and summer vegetables.

j) Bio-diesel plantations (Karanja and Jatropa) can be taken up in watershed and other rain fed areas.

k) Promotion of organic farming in the district.

l) The backyard poultry can be improved by introduction of improved breeds like Giriraja, Vanaraja etc.,

m) The pasture lands in the district (56,374 ha.) encourages dairy, sheep and goat rearing as
     supplementary  income sources.

n) Fodder development and live stock management need to be emphasized.

o) The existing major and minor irrigation sources in the district paves a path to develop pisci culture.

p) Existing irrigation sources in the district  are  very well suitable to develop Scampi culture.

q) Production & Popularisation of Air breathing fish culture by utilizing small water bodies as income
    generating activity to rural youth.

r) The women and child health awareness camps with special emphasis on seasonal disease   
    management and nutritional deficiencies.

s) The rural women especially under non command area need supplementary income generating
    skills like vermi  composting, bag making, tailoring, embroidary, etc.,

t) Farmers need to be motivated towards issues like crop insurance, Insurance for live stock etc.,

u)   Awareness programmes should be conducted in respect of quality improvement and market requirements in agriculture.

v) The CBO can be strengthened and trained  in bio fertilizers and bio pesticides production.
